A huge congratulations to Sarosh Mulla, whose Longbush Ecosanctuary and Welcome Shelter has received Urbis Magazine’s Best Public Space Award for 2015! This is a fantastic achievement given the high-calibre of the competitors last year. Located in Gisborne’s Waimata Valley, the Welcome Shelter acts as an educational space for children and an entrance to the Longbush Ecosanctuary. Circumnavigating the typical model in which architecture is commissioned and funded by clients, the Shelter was initiated by Sarosh. Sarosh led the design and construction of the project with a large team of volunteers.
