Pasture

A spatial arrangement to support a unique and exceptional dining experience.

The activity is centred around the open fire, where fish frames or cuts of meats are hung to develop additional flavour.

It is as refined as any white-tablecloth restaurant, yet as personal as an intimate dinner party at a friend’s house, if your friend was the best chef in Auckland. — Henry Oliver, Metro Magazine

Pasture is an independent restaurant providing a fine dining experience unlike any other in New Zealand. The process of the restaurant design began with a deeply considered briefing where the experimentation presented in the menu was examined carefully.

The design of the service spaces and dining room sprang from this understanding. Combining the challenges of a world-class kitchen with an unusual service strategy, we worked closely with the owners to develop a

spatial arrangement which supported a unique dining experience.

It seats only 25, with diners presented with a unique set menu based on the practises of cooking with fire, foraging and fermenting. The heart of the restaurant is the hearth, fanned and flamed by the chef and surrounded with flavourful fish frames and cuts of aged meat. The large, L-shaped bar and servery – faced with parquet-style recycled timber – seating for six – defines the room, putting guests at the centre of drinks and meal creation.
